Lighthouse of Collier (LOC) is pleased to add a new board member to its impressive roster. Dr. Carolina Lucia Mercado is an ophthalmologist and Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Bascom Palmer is part of the University of Miami Health System and is ranked Best in Ophthalmology by U.S. News and World Report.
Dr. Mercado practices in Naples, FL, and specializes in corneal and ocular surface diseases. She is actively involved in clinical research that is focused on corneal transplantation, ocular surface tumors, and innovative treatments to restore corneal blindness. Dr. Mercado completed advanced fellowship training at Bascom Palmer and is passionate about advancing eye care through research, education, and mentorship.
Dr. Mercado says she is honored to serve on the Board of Directors at LOC and is committed to supporting its mission of fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for individuals who are blind and visually impaired. She will also provide some great insight into LOC’s social media and marketing efforts.
LOC’s Chief Executive Officer Robin Goldstone Garcia says Dr. Mercado will bring fresh ideas to the nonprofit. Everyone at The Lighthouse is looking forward to meeting and working with Dr. Mercado.
LOC has nine board members and one honorary board member who contribute financially, are actively involved in raising funds, and bring a valuable understanding of the blind and low-vision industry.
