Lighthouse of Collier, Inc., offers programs/services, at no charge, to help the blind and visually impaired become independent in Collier County.

As the only Center for Blindness and Vision Loss in Collier County, Lighthouse of Collier helps the estimated 14,000* local children and adults become independent. Founded in 2009, Lighthouse of Collier, Inc., is established as a Florida Not For Profit, 501 (c) (3), Corporation. 100% of the funds raised stay in Collier County.

The mission of Lighthouse of Collier is to promote the development, implementation and on-going evaluation of programs and services which foster independence and enhance the quality of life for the blind, visually impaired and their caregivers.

Big Thanks to American Comfort Limousines for Taking the Summer Camp Kids EVERYWHERE!

A BIG Thank you to American Comfort Limousines for providing camp transportation. More than half of the campers were able to participate due to the generosity of American Comfort Limousines. American Comfort Limousines donated 58 trips, 2 professional drives, Frank and Don, working over 100 hours and driving over 2,000 miles for a donation of $12,900!! American Comfort Limousines made our campers Happy Campers.

American Comfort Limousines also provides transportation for Lighthouse of Collier's Transition Program, ages 14-22.

iPhone class opens up new world

NAPLES, Fla. - For eight years, John Urquhart just wanted to call his wife.

But the 85-year-old has been legally blind since 2004 and, because of severe frostbite on his fingers, seeing a phone — let alone pressing the buttons — was a challenge.

But for Urquhart and a dozen others in a class at Lighthouse of Collier, Apple’s iPhone has been a game changer. The students, all with different levels of visual impairment, have been learning to use the iPhone to do things ranging from asking Siri for the time to using FaceTime.

And, of course, making phone calls.
